Ex-students

Hello guys!!

My name is Ignacio Llorente, an ex-student of the Nueve Valles High school. Six years ago I left the school with an objective, to become an economist. In that time everybody told me about the importance of learning a foreign language, but I never could imagine how important it would be!

Since I left Nueve Valles, I got a degree in Business Administration, and then I got a Master in Business Administration. Now I´m a PhD candidate at University of Cantabria and at the same time I work in a Research Groups as a Junior Researcher. My work is related to economic management of fisheries and aquaculture.

Nowadays, I have to use my English skills every day at work; reading papers, writing emails, reading reports. Also, a year ago, I started to attend international scientific conferences (Montpellier, Oporto…) where everybody speaks English and all the conference are in English. So I had to improve my English to improve my opportunities at job!!!

So, I recommend you study English abroad. In my experience, the main advantage of staying abroad is to get the ability of understanding the main accents. When I began at my work I had a lot of problems to understand the English of people from Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Japan, Germany or Australia. For us it is easy to understand Spanish or Italian accent, but in a global world, you are going to meet people from all over the world!!

Last year, I had to travel on an airplane next to a Vietnamese. It was impossible to get along with him and I was very worried because I thought I had lost my level of English. However, the Vietnamese began to speak with a Canadian who was sitting in front and then I realized that the problem was the English of the Vietnamese, not mine!Escuchar

Some people study English abroad and others in the official language school. In my opinion both are necessary. Studying English abroad allows you to improve your fluency. Studying at a language school can help you keep your English and get the official degree then you need to prove your English in many jobs.

What I’m trying to do telling you about my experiences is that learning English becomes your priority. It will give you a competitive advantage in the labor market, it isn’t a topic, it is real!!

But now, you don´t have to care about the job! You should study, improve your English and enjoy the time that you expend at Nueve Valles!

Perhaps, nobody is going to believe me, but sometimes, I miss the school!!
